MICROPHONE INPUT (JACK)

Many Beta VCRS have a microphone input for adding external audio. It usually accompanies the audio dub feature. It records along the top edge of the tape using a stationary audio head. An erase head placed just before the audio head clears the tape of any previous recording prior to adding the new audio, video is not affected. The microphone input is usually located on the front of the VCR and can be either a mini or a 1/4 inch phone jack. Plugging into the jack usually disables the regular audio recording. Microphone compatibility can vary so it is recommended that the instruction manual be consulted prior to using.
