THE 711P CHASSIS DESIGN

The "P" variation of the 711 chassis is used in the portable Betas. This is a top loader that uses dual pancake reel motors. Capstan uses a single pancake motor. Threading is driven by a rubber belt coming from a motor and gear assembly. The cassette lid is opened by pressing the EJECT button that releases a catch/capture arrangement. With a tape inside pressing EJECT unthreads the tape and trips the catch to release the lid. The video drum is protected by a dew sensor. The SL-2001 uses a belt coming off the capstan to drive the reel table. To see a list of the various 711 chassis types used during the life of Beta click here.
